Irving July 4th Celebration 2022
The City of Irving, Texas needed a water projection show that would bring the energy for their 4th of July celebration, welcoming their residents to their first post-Covid Independence Day.
After designing Irving’s 2021 Independence Day visuals, how could we outdo ourselves? Using dual projectors, we doubled the coverage to show a sprawling 3D-animated film to an energetic crowd on July 4th, 2022. These two screens formed a diptych to show Irving how much we loved their city.
The film followed our main character driving around town in his Nissan Skyline (set to the song Skyline by Khalid) passing through brightly-colored futuristic scenes and familiar landmarks from around town. When the car finally stops at a replica of Lake Carolyn, where the actual event is being held, he gets out to approach a young girl who starred in last year’s July 4th video. She passes a sparkler to him like a baton, ensuring that the celebration continues for another year.
Blender was used to design and animate the stylish characters and locations. Compositing was done via After Effects.
